Welcome to the Sustainable Solar Home website! This site showcases the construction of our Eco-friendly Sustainable Solar Home (SSH). The purpose of this site is to help you get the most out of the natural resources that this planet has to offer, including earth, rain, wind, and especially the sun, so that you can build and live sustainably. Natural and green building do-it-yourself (DIY) strategies are outlined, including the use of sustainable materials and reclaimed resources, renewable energy (including solar energy and solar panels), thermal mass based passive solar design principles, and sustainable living practices. Our goal is to share home construction principles that are simple, cost effective and DIY friendly, while at the same time allowing you to create a beautiful, healthy, durable, and sustainably functioning home. Living in such a net zero home will allow you to maximize your freedom and independence by basically eliminating your monthly utility expenses...Please explore and enjoy the site.
We have Bottle Walls!!!
Absolutely love your home. I’m very impressed. It really fits in well with the landscape. It looks very organic. Please make sure to keep us posted on the progress. It’s always fun to see other homes go up, especially ones like yours that are well done. Also, I would love to know once you get moved in, how it all works as far as with your solar and water storage. The climate is so different than ours, it will be interesting to see.
Thanks for the follow up. Wonderful work there. Trust you had the pleasure of doing the lion's share of the work. Sweat equity makes a house immediately feel like a home. Nice safe feeling with the sustainability; being independent is highly underrated. The bread-box tempering tank loft is a very nice touch. Best wishes for a long and happy life in your home - a work of art.
Regards for a Merry Christmas,
Best wishes to you and your family as well this holiday season!
It has been a pleasure inspecting your home, as you have taken so much time planning and preparing for it and it shows!
